Ages and Stages

The Ages and Stages Questionnaire is a childhood developmental screening tool that identifies strengths and possible concerns.  It also educates parents about developmental milestones.
The percentage of young children, birth to three, in our community receiving early intervention services is lower than the state percentage and the national baseline. Smart Beginnings seeks to increase developmental screenings and referral opportunities for early intervention services by working with parent educators in the community. They are:

The Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ -3) is a developmental and screening tool used for children from one month to 5 1/2 years. It is usually completed by the parent and scored by a health care provider or other professional. The ASQ looks at strengths and challenges, educates parents about developmental milestones, and incorporates parents’ knowledge about their children. The assessment takes 10 to 30 minutes to administer.

SBRA has two ASQ-3 kits for loan to community organizations and promotes ASQ-3 training workshops held in our region to VA Quality programs and through social media to the early childhood professionals.
